Welcome to the UK Merchant Services information page. If you're looking for a Merchant account to process credit cards in the UK we hope the following information might be useful.

The list below is in no way endorsed by us nor do we receive any finincial reward from the links, however they are all large well known UK Merchant Account Providers and well worth a look at when researching your new account.

We put this little site together after our experience applying for an account with euroconex, who we found to be totally useless and well worth avoiding.*

Our Euroconex Experience
Credit Card

*We applied for an account with euroconex online and after a few days received a phone call detailing their terms and rates. A couple of days later we received another phone call from a different person with a completely different set of rates. When we told the second caller we'd already had a call he started to ask us what rates we'd been quoted and then amended his to nearly match the first quote. After about a week we received an application pack with the original terms and rates and sure enough some days later a second pack with the slightly different rates.

Obviously we used the application with the lower rates and applied. After many weeks we received a letter saying our application had been unsuccessful, no explaination was provided and it clearly stated on the letter that the decision was final and not up for discussion. The entire process had wasted 5-6 weeks and at this stage I simply applied to another card processor and was up and running within a couple of weeks.

The story didn't end here, about another month passed and I got another letter from euroconex, this time telling me if I didn't apply for my account soon they wouldn't be able to offer me the special rates they had quoted in the application pack.

As you can imagine I now consider my experience with euroconex as a lucky escape, as I simply can't imagine a company like this processing my credit cards. I'm now happily processing all transactions through another processor with absolutely no problems and counting my luck stars to have escaped from euroconex.

Added 14th February 2007:
This site has stirred a little interest with euroconex :-), I received the following email from an anonymous euroconex employee**. The Level of the correspondence pretty much speaks for itself.

"You are totally moron if you don't know why card acquirer has declined your application. First - think, second - say going forward. You have no idea how this market works. It's good for eCx that they rejected your pathetic business. Bye."

To be fair, the sender has probably hit the nail on the head, I don't have any idea how this market works, and to be honest I don't need too. What I do know is that I'm now happily accepting tens of thousands of pounds worth of credit card business which euroconex are missing out on, but then according to the sender, it's good for eCx that they rejected my pathetic business. As for the other well reasoned and well thought out points like, "think"? and "say going forward"? I really must be a moron because I've no idea what they're talking about :-)

**I've no way of verifying the authenticity of the sender as they used a dummy email and just signed the email Saint, but I'll let you decide who they speak for.

The Future for UK Merchant Account

SpacerSpacerI really don't know what the future holds for this site, it's been great fun winding up euroconex and the emails of support that I've received have been greatly appreciated. In the long run the costs involved in running the site, probably out weigh the satisfaction I get every time an email arrives thanking me for steering someone away from these guys. I've though about turning the site into a simple web directory, like the Web Directory List but this would take some effort as I'd have to manually check all the submissions and I really don't have the time.

If anyone has any suggestions for a future use please feel free to contact me. I'd even consider selling the site, if the price was right ;-) but to be honest although it does cost a bit to run, I've done a fair bit of work getting it listed high in google and I think as the domain ages the sites listing will just get better, and the value will increase which will hopefully cover the cost of running and promoting it.

In short, for now I'll just keep it as it is, but don't be suprised if someday you stop by and see a whole new site.
